Stage 3 of Robin Eley's Olive Grove.

As Robin Eley's painting of the Olive Grove gets closer to completion tension starts to build. A tension that only occurs when Robin Eley puts down his pencil, mixes up a pallete of burnt umber and starts to paint the underpainting by hand. It's a unique tension that can't be rescued by digital artwork's dynamic duo, Apple & Z.

Since our last update on the 25th of September Robin has moved from his small A3 studies to the large canvas. With a width of almost one and a half metres to work with the most striking development you'll notice is the amount of room Robin now has in which to move. Even in the underpainting which onbly depicts the shaddows of the olive grove you can appreciate the minute details cast by the leaves, bark and folds.

As you scroll through the olive grove images below the same tension we feel will build in you as you start to appreciate each stroke from Robin's hand that can't be rubbed out or undone. When you get to the final underpainting at the very bottom of this page you, like us, might just love it enough to want to take it home now just as it is.
