The intricate linework that is synonomous with currency has traditionally been done in scraper board. Hence when Australia Post wanted to commission an illustrator to create a series of intricate illustrations for their Swanny money our minds went straight to Phil Holliday.

Phil Holliday spent years mastering the craft of scraper board only to have the medium recently banned by the Australian customs authority. Customs are sensitive (paranoid) about the medium due to the fact it is made from clay. Add to that the fact that there is no local supplier of white clay scraperboards and we had ourselves a challenge.

We are very proud of Phil's work below, with deft wrist he painstakingly drew each line, first in pencil then in pen in order to satisfy the brief.
